In the first quarter of 2019, Kingfisher reports sales of £2.8 billion up 1.7% in constant currency, LFL(1) up 0.8%. Screwfix, Poland and Romania delivered good sales growth. Total sales in Romania grew by +10.1%.
Total sales in Poland grew by +7.4%, to £347 millions. LFL +6.2% reflecting the continued good performance of unified & unique ranges and despite the loss of one further Sunday of trading per month.
Total sales in Romania grew by +10.1%, to £39 millions. LFL +24.6% reflecting strong performance of unified & unique ranges. The integration of Praktiker stores is progressing well with all stores now rebranded as Brico Dépôt.
Brico Dépôt Romania is on profit but Kingfisher is on losing in Romania because of the acquisition of Praktiker Romania from November 2017.
Brico Depôt Romania, part of Kingfisher plc, finalized the transformation of the 19 Praktiker stores in Brico Depôt at the end of march 2019, when the retailer anounnced a new brand positioning. The new Brico Depôt store network from Romania now has 34 stores in 25 cities across the country.
